I am putting on my happy pants. It has been announced that Google Fiber will definitely be coming to Atlanta. Shut the hell up, all you weirdo Google-conspiracy theorists, I am eagerly waiting for Google just inside my front door…with cookies, if that helps.
Since high-speed, reliable internet at an affordable cost is a new and novel concept for both AT&T and Comcast, they are scrambling to deliver a magically enhanced, Google-comparable service in the areas where Google Fiber is available. Frankly, I don’t care. All that means to me is that my current provider is stealing bandwidth from everyone else and degrading my service in order to curry favor where they are losing market share. When Peter gets robbed to pay Paul, only Paul is happy.
My previous provider was AT&T. I don’t even want to talk about them. I still have emotional scars. My current provider is Comcast, who has managed to provide their advertised level of service most of the time, although I have to admit I am enjoying the ongoing media circus of Comcast’s inability to stop sending out bills that apparently express what they really think of their customers (see happy customers “Asshole” and “Super Bitch”). But I would drop them in a minute for Google. I am so fickle. I guess I should be glad I have electronic billing.
